Garden Style

April 12th, 2012

Spring seems to have arrived a month early this year and I’m enjoying all the budding trees with bright green leaves that have appeared with the unseasonably warm temperatures.  Fragrant blossoms from crabapple trees in hues of pink and white line the street and their soft petals blanket the sidewalk when a breeze catches them as they float through the air.  Even my lilac bushes are in full bloom.  It makes me realize how much I miss the lush foliage that has laid dormant during the winter months.  I am also reminded of how plants of all shapes and form enrich our living spaces – particularly outdoor spaces but also on the inside of our home as well.  I have read that our eyes are most sensitive to the color green and can see more hues of green than any other color. It is also the color that is known to have a soothing affect on the body and mind.  Nature abounds with shades of green and I realize I am drawn to places that have a lot of plants and find myself wanting to linger in the garden-like atmosphere.

Vegetation softens the edges of our living spaces, oxygenating the the air and bringing life to a room.  There’s something wonderful about having a green plant grow and bloom in our midst.  Silk plants can capture the essence of plants growing without the hassle of watering and pots of herbs such as basil and parsley in a windowsill or on the edge of a patio offer a tasty way to green-up a space. Spring time is a reminder that plants have a powerful allure and can make a room feel luxurious.
